WORLD WONDERS - CHICHEN ITZA, MEXICO

Chichen Itza is an ancient Maya city located in the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico. It was one of the largest and most powerful cities of the Maya civilization and was an important center of trade, religion, and politics.

Chichen Itza was founded around the 5th century AD and reached its peak of power and influence in the 9th and 10th centuries. The city was home to a number of impressive architectural structures, including the Temple of Kukulkan, which is a pyramid that is considered one of the most iconic symbols of the Maya civilization. Other notable structures at Chichen Itza include the Temple of the Warriors, the Great Ball Court, and the Observatory.

Chichen Itza was abandoned by the Maya in the 13th century, but it has been well-preserved and has become an important tourist attraction. It was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1988 and is now visited by millions of people each year. The city's impressive ruins and fascinating history make it a must-see destination for anyone interested in the ancient Maya civilization.
